What is gum disease?

Gum  disease is an infection of the tissue that holds the teeth in place. Through good oral hygiene habits it can help  prevent  the progression of the disease .The earlier we catch it, the easier the treatment will be .  Gum disease is an ongoing bacterial infection of the gums often caused by poor oral hygiene, dental plaque, smoking, genetic factors, stress, diet, age, and illness. If left untreated, the inflammation  can lead to a serious infection that  can destroy the bone around the teeth, leading to tooth mobility resulting in tooth loss.
